I remember when we met Ringo Starr. I get a call from my SiriusXM rep George and he asked are you sitting down? He then said “How would you like to see a private performance with Ringo Starr and his All-Star Band at the Troubador in LA … TOMORROW?
Earlier that same day I had asked my wife if she wanted to go see a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Show of which I had also been invited to. She said she could not take the time off of work just to go see the Jimmy Kimmel Show. A little later that day, I said we have an invite to go see Ringo Starr in LA, and she got super-excited and said YES! I’ll take off work for that! I said what about Jimmy Kimmel? She said, “Hey! We’re going to go see a Beatle!!” You can’t argue with that.
It was very exciting! As soon as we got to the Troubador, we noticed there were about 50 people, and we hung out about 20 feet from the stage. George comes up and asks, “would you and Barbara like to meet Ringo?” 2 minutes later we’re upstairs in the green room and chatting with Ringo, and we got our picture with him. He was so nice and funny!
The show was a great rush for me because my first ever record album was Sgt. Peppers, and of course the 2nd track on the album is sung by Ringo with the iconic rendition of With a Little Help from My Friends. And when he sang it Live on stage it was one of those extraordinary moments hearing him sing this iconic song.
